Short Update #2

Serge and I just got back from a lovely dinner.  We have really been enjoying the food and wine here.  We honestly haven't had a bad meal yet!  We went to an awesome restaurant with Serge's colleague, Tobias on Sunday.  It was in a castle in Wettenberg, and I wanted to upload some photos we took there, but the internet in our hotel is crazy slow.  Hopefully we will have internet in our apartment this weekend, and I can show you all some pictures!  We got the keys to our apartment yesterday, but our furniture will not be delivered until Thursday, so we're still staying in the hotel.  Thursday will be our first night in our new place!  Yay!!

Today Serge and I went to Gießen to find out where my school is.  I'm going to have to ride the train all by myself!  I feel like a big girl now! :-) The ladies at the school were super nice, and I think it'll be a great fit for me.  Hopefully I'll learn a lot and develop confidence maneuvering around the city alone!

Serge was going to write a guest blog tonight, but the chocolate sundae he had for dessert has made him too sleepy.  Maybe we'll get to hear from him tomorrow!  He did want me to tell you all that the word of the day is "Kartoffelpuffer," which is a potato pancake.

That's all for now.  We will update again soon - hopefully with pictures!  Feel free to leave us a comment!  Thanks!

Update: Wir sind hier!

Guten Tag, friends and followers!!  Serge and I have made it to Wetzlar!  Our flight left Tuesday afternoon from Charleston, and we arrived in Frankfurt early Wednesday morning, German time.  The flight was not so bad, although we didn't get much sleep, so jet lag has been awful.  But saying goodbye to our friends and family was so hard!  There were lots of tears and hugs, and it took me up until right before boarding to get it together.  That's when I started to get excited about the move again.  Like my mom said, if we didn't have such great friends and family it wouldn't be so darn hard!

Serge and I are having a great time getting reacquainted with the town, shopping for furniture, spending time with new friends, taking care of all the requirements for foreigners, and practicing our German.  Serge's German is wunderbar!  Everyone has complimented him on his skills, and he seems very comfortable speaking and can understand almost everything he hears.  I, on the other hand, am very timid when talking and feel like I need my classes to start ASAP!  Everyone has been extremely patient and kind, and most people speak perfect english as well.  Serge tries to remind me that everyday we will get a little better!

We have been discussing how to write our blog, and Serge came up with the idea to have a section about "The Great, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly."  This way we can remind ourselves that even though we may have a few bad days, there will be wonderful times as well!  We are going to include pictures, so that all of you can see what you're missing and why you should come visit! :-) Also, we are hoping to do a lot of traveling, so we will write about all our trips as well.  We are planning to update this blog regularly and are really looking forward to sharing our adventures with you all!  Thanks for reading and come back soon!  We miss and love you all!!
